The Wolfgang Press - Bird Wood Cage

Enough dark to satisfy old gothic fan base, and under the influence of the then trends in music, refreshed with dance elements, this album is something that avoids genre, and to me, personally, always interesting adventure :)

P.S.
This is the original version of the album, which is available only on vinyl and don't contain bonus tracks, the one I prefer  :)

Various Artists - Sound of Siam, Vol. 2: Molam & Luk Thung 1970-1982

Military machine, despite all the negative, can sometimes have a positive effect. For example, the arrival of the US Army in Thailand, in the sixties, had a strong influence on local bands, and has mixed American genres like rock, soul, jazz with traditional Thai luk thung style. And the result is timeless music that, today, 50 years later, makes me very happy :)

James Brown - The Payback

Knowing several live albums of James Brown, I realized that I mostly dissatisfied with them. While undoubtedly made of the great songs, I had objections, in the first place, with rarely changing repertoire, and for me never quite clear thing, completely ignoring songs from this fantastic album, which as a whole is definition of hypnotic funk ... You know, maybe the audience expected always the same hits, but I'm not interested in it at all. After all, there is the question of why anyone even record that huge amount of songs,  without giving them a chance to live ..
Basically, pandering to the audience, as for me, Is just tapping in one place and i have no motive to see artist on concert again. But, does that means you do not need to listen to this wild album? On the contrary, it should be consumed in large quantities :)

Miles Davis - On The Corner

If I really run out of inspiration, the tactic is this: I turn on Winamp and the choice falls on the first heavy classic that caught my eye. Very simple, isn't?
Does this tactic makes sense, judge for yourself :)

John Stevens Away - Mutual Benefit

Monotonous travelling, from point A to point B, for me is something totally different, possibility to research endless variations. And if we blend music into that moving (we all have mini computers with us ) things get really nadreal, and this momentaly soundtrack directly have impact on reality and when you get there where you are going, you ask yourself: " How did i arrive here? " :)
And one of my favorite "teleport" soundtrack last few years was this, John Stevens "Mutual Benefit"  :)

The Lijadu Sisters - Danger

When i was younger, i often listened to Fela Kuti, floating in his heavy and psychedelic kind of resistance, which moved me then and also years later, on different ways..
Later, unrelated to Kuti, i found a fantastic band, The Raincoats, and this was maybe the best all - girls band i ever heard. Their completely different four albums and fantastic imagination once again changed my already formed opinion what alternative music is.
And then, why today's post? What's connection between this two sisters with whole story? Well, with Kuti, they share same time and same geography - Nigeria. Also, i'm very interested in woman's perception of one obviously very "interesting" state like a NIgeria. And specifically, they deserved place here because, like i said before, best woman's band ever, have stolen a few things exactly from them  :)

James "Blood" Ulmer - Black Rock

This is one dirty jazzfunkrock record. All that in one? Well, that's what Ulmer's initial idea was and it is wonderfully realized. If you add to that Ulmer's highly original guitar playing, satisfaction is guaranteed :)

ESG - Step Off

It is a rainy day, after midnight. Outside is cold, in my room is nicely warm, and i'm in some kind a slow mood. And i find perfect soundtrack for this state, ESG. Everything here is simple, rhythm is slow, and i'm dancing without moving body, just in mind.
Well, what more can i say, i always liked basic stuff,  and this little LP have word "basic" in its definition :)

Oysterhead - The Grand Pecking Order

If you put together three musicians with completely different background what you will get? Well, there is no right answer to that question. Maybe, one of them will be stronger, like persona, so, it will be his showcase at all. Maybe it will be democracy, everybody gets their part, but this can't be natural. Maybe it will be total chaos and completely forgotten after few years. Or it will be nothing, just a future legend, what could be if...
But, all this answers is just theory and there is no sense in theorizing. However, one thing we can claim : the music here is great and that is all that matters  :)

Betty Davis - Nasty Gal

If somebody asks me, who I am afraid, well, maybe, just maybe, i will say miss. Betty Davis :)
I mean, listen to her, she can disintegrate my whole personality with just one scream, man.. And, if you add hardest variant of  "Sly and the Family Stone" sound to her aggressive personality, what you will get? Pure force ....

Bootsy Collins - Stretchin' Out in Bootsy's Rubber Band

What you can say about Bootsy. He played bass in James Brown band in time when late JB invented Funk, helping him to create it. Then he moved to Parliament \ Funkadelic, most imaginative and probably best Funk band ever. In middle of that he started solo carrier and prove himself like one of main players in '70. Do you remember big world hit of the nineties "Groove Is in the Heart"? Guess who play bass there? So, Bootsy created history and i don't see any sense to miss that part. But you shouldn't think about history, just play it loud and feel the groove  :)

Tom Tom Club - Downtown Rockers EP

Maybe they live in past, but in the other hand, their past is ingenious. And if you live in past, that's your present, right? Conclusion - They have great time on this world, and that is exactly what you can hear on this excellent EP.

Stevie Wonder - Fulfillingness' First Finale

In my salad days i started with heavy metal. Later, i dismiss this genre completely (except Slayer, maybe). I wanted different kind of heaviness, something real. I'll remember Iggy Pop concert, during the nineties, he always had some heavy metal guys for his supporting band. By default they should be dangerous, yes? Motorbikes, tatoos, Satan, leather, etc. They may be dangerous, but old Iggy is nuclear bomb. And during the whole concert, his own band run away from him like rabbits. It was very funny to me. So ..... metal is for girls, not heavy at all :) But, in those metal days i had Stevie Wonder's LP "Talking book" on my wall, from my parents, probably. And, I went in, suspiciously, and discovered a whole new world. From that time i'm into more complex picture and lot of thing is passed through my ears (with very strict criteria, i must say).
And what about today's post? Today's post is simply elegant :)

Parliament - Motor Booty Affair

You have a bad day? Or it's too cold, maybe? I have simple solution. Play this album and move your hips, because you are ear to ear with one of all time greatest dance albums. And if  you think this is all, you are terrible wrong. Also, every songs is a hit, but approach to music is highly experimental, production is up to date and the year is 1978, not to mention underwater concept as leitmotif.....Take a breath and go deep...
