New Wet Kojak - Nasty International

If we ask what kind of music is this, I'm not sure we'll come up with some concrete results. Created as an extension of Girls Against Boys, this Washington-based group may be a rock, but it's also the noise, ambiental, or some kind of sonic passage that feels good to my ears. All in all, a thick and murky sound, based more on tension than on the riff.
After all, this is all just theorizing, what is important that I spent an hour in vacuuming and wiping the dust, enjoying, all thanks to this great album :)

Sofa Surfers - Encounters

This record, with its dark atmosphere and urban rhythms, permeated with the occasional hit songs, at the time of issue, and even today, satisfied my musical criteria. And why is that? Well, since my computer dying just now, you'll have to judge for yourself  :)

ESG - Step Off

It is a rainy day, after midnight. Outside is cold, in my room is nicely warm, and i'm in some kind a slow mood. And i find perfect soundtrack for this state, ESG. Everything here is simple, rhythm is slow, and i'm dancing without moving body, just in mind.
Well, what more can i say, i always liked basic stuff,  and this little LP have word "basic" in its definition :)

Jah Wobble's Solaris - Live in Concert

Wobble gathered here a fantastic team with one mission : to clean out our brains from unnecessary thoughts. Well, ok, maybe that's not true :) But i'm sitting here, first song is almost over and I am irresistibly drawn into the vortex of sound that comes out of my speakers. And vaguely, I remember my last unnecessary thought, i think it was : "Very, very good"....

Material - Seven Souls

All Bill Laswell's signature sounds are here, massive bass lines, pulsating rhythm, dark atmosphere, ambiental parts, mysticism, third world singers, even some heavy metal riffs, all in one place. Lyrically, this is William S. Burroughs show and he do it very well and convincingly. And if you ask me, this is my kind of world music, strongly influenced by world's psychedelic and primitive sounds, but this is a genre by itself. World music genre is very popular today, only problem is adjustment to western market, like MTV sound, love and positivism, but basically, world music is very dark and psychedelic. At least they should represent both sides..We humans are much more complex than that. Or not?
Anyway, enough with the talking, lower your blinds, Material and Burroughs are ready to dive deep in human subconscious, don't miss that ride :)

Little Axe - Champagne & Grits

Blues is huge music form, but somehow is based on cover songs and rarely sound fresh, just goes around. I don't say it's not good, just, there is too many blues records and i always had problems with genre-specific music. Music, for me, is much wider term. And Little Axe? Well, obviously, they think similar. And result is one of greatest blues record, and it even don't sound like real blues. It's not strange because it's recorded by first class alternative musicians, but music is very commercial, blues with updated production, made by dub and reggae master Adrian Sherwood....
And just because we have these opposites we can hear nothing less than magic. So, don't miss it, it is future classic :)

The Raincoast - Odyshape

It's not easy to say something clever for huge bite like this. It sounds like ambiental reggae, it's very minimalistic and full of sophisticated melodies, but in the same time is very, very complex LP, little bit nervous and sometimes uncontrolled. It's made by four woman, well, considering attributes in sentence before, and if we think that artists give themselfs through their art, i'm little bit closer to the solution of a mystery why i always have problems with females :) Ok, this is half a joke, but truth is, here is fantastic band before you. So, don't waste your time anymore, just imagine that you have new raincoat and outside is nice rainy day :)

Bootsy Collins - Stretchin' Out in Bootsy's Rubber Band

What you can say about Bootsy. He played bass in James Brown band in time when late JB invented Funk, helping him to create it. Then he moved to Parliament \ Funkadelic, most imaginative and probably best Funk band ever. In middle of that he started solo carrier and prove himself like one of main players in '70. Do you remember big world hit of the nineties "Groove Is in the Heart"? Guess who play bass there? So, Bootsy created history and i don't see any sense to miss that part. But you shouldn't think about history, just play it loud and feel the groove  :)

O'Rang - Herd of Instinct

In the beggining, there was pop band. Once, when they discovered that pop form is too narrow for them, they rearrange their minds and recorded a number of ingenious albums. This is a continuation of that story, very exciting and free of rules, great pulsing experience.
