It's not easy to say something clever for huge bite like this. It sounds like ambiental reggae, it's very minimalistic and full of sophisticated melodies, but in the same time is very, very complex LP, little bit nervous and sometimes uncontrolled. It's made by four woman, well, considering attributes in sentence before, and if we think that artists give themselfs through their art, i'm little bit closer to the solution of a mystery why i always have problems with females :) Ok, this is half a joke, but truth is, here is fantastic band before you. So, don't waste your time anymore, just imagine that you have new raincoat and outside is nice rainy day :)
I always liked this kind of music, which blur line between alternative and classic sound. I mean, country music is very classical music genre and here we can find some first-rate songs. But, this is Howe Gelb's record, there is no straight line here, and in the last song there is verse: "You are too beautiful to fit in any magazine". And with that sentence, as for me, he said all...
What you can say about Bootsy. He played bass in James Brown band in time when late JB invented Funk, helping him to create it. Then he moved to Parliament \ Funkadelic, most imaginative and probably best Funk band ever. In middle of that he started solo carrier and prove himself like one of main players in '70. Do you remember big world hit of the nineties "Groove Is in the Heart"? Guess who play bass there? So, Bootsy created history and i don't see any sense to miss that part. But you shouldn't think about history, just play it loud and feel the groove :)
I'm sitting here, it's almost midnight and i'm trying to do my homework for tomorrow. But, somehow, i'm very tired, my mind wanders around and i'm completely lost in this dramatic and sometimes hard to swallow peaces. And, iffor some reason youneeda similarkind ofescape, i'm glad I could help.
Also, there is whole concept behind this LP, but, like i said, i'm too tired now :) Anyway, the knowledge is not always necessary for enjoyment.
