Naked City - Naked City

For Zorn admirers this is an inevitable part of a large and varied career, but for those who don't know who Zorn is, it will be an excursion into something that they could not even imagine :) This powerful blend of rock, jazz, metal and noise, linked with violent strikes of Zorn's saxophone, as well with fantastic assembled team of New York musicians (Fred Frith, Bill Frisell, Wayne Horvitz, Yamatsuka Eye), makes that music here resists all borders and genre limitations and give to us something completely unique.
Just the way I like :)

Cabaret Voltaire - The Crackdown

Although somehow sounds tamed, and for some fans it is a selling of their favorite band, this is really just another logical step in the development of the band, in accordance with the then music flows. After all, a million years away from commercial sound, this excellent album, with its twisted logic, constantly make my brain pulsing in rhythm :)

Laurie Anderson - Mister Heartbreak

Although the words are her favorite toy, Ms. Anderson also successfully handle with music and with visual art .. Basically performer and multimedia artist, during its long career, she published several very interesting albums. One of them, maybe little bit more accessible, is precisely this album. Sonically weird, with strange verses, and supported with more than great guests, it represent adventure that does not make sense to miss :)

The Wolfgang Press - Bird Wood Cage

Enough dark to satisfy old gothic fan base, and under the influence of the then trends in music, refreshed with dance elements, this album is something that avoids genre, and to me, personally, always interesting adventure :)

P.S.
This is the original version of the album, which is available only on vinyl and don't contain bonus tracks, the one I prefer  :)

French Frith Kaiser Thompson - Live, Love, Larf & Loaf

This band, in addition to the inevitable "all-star" epithet, also echoes with the sound of four friends which have very much fun. Taking into account the strong aura of each individual separately here, and apparently non-existent clash of egos, the result is a charming, colorful and always great record.

Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band - Doc at the Radar Station

To say that this album is R'n'R, perhaps is too mildly. This is unstoppable train which ran over my brain and left serious consequences :)

Also, this post is not only from me, it is also from miss K. Be grateful to her, please :)

The Creatures - Boomerang

This kind of music always interested me, one that knows no boundaries, also very strange and rhythmic completely open. Indeed, according to the thin line between alternative and pop music and assuming that we want to do something like this, it would be very difficult to define the genre of this album :)
And above all, as the connective tissue, here is Siouxie, giving us himself, and that element is absolutely irreplaceable, if you please :)

DNA - A Taste of DNA EP

Is ten minutes a lot or a little? Well, it depends. Listen to this brilliant and little bit nervous EP five times in a row, you will most probably think that fifty minutes is a very very short period of time :)
Tme is relative. They say...

John Stevens Away - Mutual Benefit

Monotonous travelling, from point A to point B, for me is something totally different, possibility to research endless variations. And if we blend music into that moving (we all have mini computers with us ) things get really nadreal, and this momentaly soundtrack directly have impact on reality and when you get there where you are going, you ask yourself: " How did i arrive here? " :)
And one of my favorite "teleport" soundtrack last few years was this, John Stevens "Mutual Benefit"  :)

Holger Czukay - On the Way to the Peak of Normal

Two days ago was my birthday, so, all in all, it wasn't bad day :) Now, the concept of birthdays is inevitably tied to the end of one and for the start of a new life cycle. And somehow our civilized way of thinking imposed to us this new beginning, to try to rein us, to become better, and that "better" is in close connection with our alignment with standards that we are currently offering. Now, how is that consistent with ourselves, the question is ...
Therefore, taking into account the above, I found a suitable choice for today's post with its Holy Grail title "On the Way to the Peak of Normal". With title, as something that is required of us, and with the music, which with its peculiarities says : " Yes, yes, maybe next year ".   :P

Czukay, master of irony  :)

Dagmar Krause - Supply and Demand

Brecht, along with Kurt Weill and Hanns Eisler wrote a number of songs, performed as part of his theater, or not. With the power of their images and messages these songs by far surpassed time in which they were written. And because of that, during the 20th century, they experienced a number of dedication from the top musicians.
However, this one is my favorite dedication. Thanks to the wonderful singer Dagmar Krause, these songs received a timeless interpretation and therefore deserved to be found here  :)

James "Blood" Ulmer - Black Rock

This is one dirty jazzfunkrock record. All that in one? Well, that's what Ulmer's initial idea was and it is wonderfully realized. If you add to that Ulmer's highly original guitar playing, satisfaction is guaranteed :)

David Thomas & The Pedestrians - Variations on a Theme

David's albums might sound crazy, but what is that mean? That there is no beauty? On the contrary. Like a musician, he is big, just take a look at his pictures :P Ok, i'm kidding, but truth is, if you spend some time in his world, you may find that you enjoy it. Or not, it's up to you :)

23 Skidoo - Seven Songs

Very interesting album that manages to find right balance between alternative dance and ambient music. Considering that both of the above musical genres have roots in nature, as for me, we can call this, jungle music with more rights and depth, than the "Jungle" music from London deserves :)

Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombones

I didn't listen this LP maybe few years, it just existed in my memory like a great influence, with it's own life in my head. Suddenly, it came back like long lost friend. And somehow, that long lost friend wasn't shadow anymore, he is brand new friend, full of new stories and intimate sounds, willing to share it with you. Maybe it's the best kind of friendship, made from the past, rarely consumed, but always fresh and enjoyable...

Material - Seven Souls

All Bill Laswell's signature sounds are here, massive bass lines, pulsating rhythm, dark atmosphere, ambiental parts, mysticism, third world singers, even some heavy metal riffs, all in one place. Lyrically, this is William S. Burroughs show and he do it very well and convincingly. And if you ask me, this is my kind of world music, strongly influenced by world's psychedelic and primitive sounds, but this is a genre by itself. World music genre is very popular today, only problem is adjustment to western market, like MTV sound, love and positivism, but basically, world music is very dark and psychedelic. At least they should represent both sides..We humans are much more complex than that. Or not?
Anyway, enough with the talking, lower your blinds, Material and Burroughs are ready to dive deep in human subconscious, don't miss that ride :)

P.S.
Originally, album starts from fourth song here, this is later edition which included remixes. So, you can choose... :)

Einstürzende Neubauten - Haus Der Luege

Where is connection between Nick Cave and Blixa Bargeld? Probably, same primitive instinct. If you listen to the first few Bad Seed albums, you can notice strong influence of tribal music, psychedelic and repetitive rhythms all over. They are a collective that travels incontinently to peak. And todays post? Same thing. On the other side, this record sounds very modern, and for me, this is kind of dance music, which bring us back to the already mentioned tribal sound, so simple in form and so rich in giving.
So, if you are caveman, like Blixa, Cave and I, let's dance :)

The Raincoast - Odyshape

It's not easy to say something clever for huge bite like this. It sounds like ambiental reggae, it's very minimalistic and full of sophisticated melodies, but in the same time is very, very complex LP, little bit nervous and sometimes uncontrolled. It's made by four woman, well, considering attributes in sentence before, and if we think that artists give themselfs through their art, i'm little bit closer to the solution of a mystery why i always have problems with females :) Ok, this is half a joke, but truth is, here is fantastic band before you. So, don't waste your time anymore, just imagine that you have new raincoat and outside is nice rainy day :)

Tuxedomoon - Divine

I'm sitting here, it's almost midnight and i'm trying to do my homework for tomorrow. But, somehow, i'm very tired, my mind wanders around and i'm completely lost in this dramatic and sometimes hard to swallow peaces. And, if for some reason you need a similar kind of escape, i'm glad I could help.
Also, there is whole concept behind this LP, but, like i said, i'm too tired now :) Anyway, the knowledge is not always necessary for enjoyment.

John Zorn - The Big Gundown: John Zorn Plays the Music of Ennio Morricone (15th Anniversary Edition)

I always tought about Zorn like one of the greatest. And Morricone? Well, with his significant sound, he is deeply in world's subconscious by now. I watched “Once upon a time in the West” few days ago, that is perfect movie. Leone and Morricone made peace of art, raw model for present art. You can say: "It is classic", but once upon a time it was the universe with its own rules. Just like today's post. Morricone for 21st Century.
